7 Signs that your Pastor is not just your preacher but that you have received them as your shepherd and leader. 1. What they say matters. You don’t take their words as just “their opinion.” You receive it as wisdom, counsel, and insight to be considered. Their words are not grouped with the words of friends, or colleagues. You seek out their insight and find safety in it.(Hebrews 13:7) 2. You strive to be what they preach Because you trust what they preach to be the word of God, your aim is to be a walking billboard for the word of the Lord that comes out of their mouth. 3. You make adjustments for them- Because you know them to be the voice of God for your life, you adjust your schedule in order to sit at their feet, to serve, or to support them. You understand that 1 one word from God is life changing and don’t casually miss opportunities to hear that word 4. You don’t make friends with their enemies Ruth 1:16. Their people are your people. You don’t open yourself up to be contaminated by the fellowshipping with those that dishonor them. (1 Corinthians 15:33) You KNOW their voice, and strangers you will not follow. 5. You ask questions but you don’t second guess them. - I believe that there is a difference in asking a question vs. questioning. You ask questions for understanding, clarity, and insight. But you unequivocally trust that if they said God said, that means He said! 6. You are deliberate about praying for them- You know the weight their words hold with many including yourself so you need them to be in tune with God and not weighted down by the superfluous. (1 Timothy 2:2). 7. You are deliberate about bringing them joy. Nobody needs a life guard in the tower while bound by weariness, fatigue, and sorrow. How much more should those who watch for your soul maintain the peace of the their soul. Do you know that YOU play a part in bringing your leaders joy? (Hebrews 13:17) You’ll never take them this serious until you have a revelation of who they are in Gods plan for your life. I know we’re in a culture that makes common the sacred, and thereby diminishes the value and significance of one’s pastor. I choose not to take on the ways or mentalities of that culture. My Pastor is STILL marked “holiness unto the Lord” in my book and I don’t touch with flesh that which is holy unto the Lord. - Bishop Demetrius Sinegal
